Glenn Pierce

Dr. Glenn Pierce currently serves on the WFH as VP Medical and WFH USA Board of Directors and NHF (US) Medical and Scientific Advisory Council. He is an Entrepreneur-in-residence at Third Rock Ventures, recently cofounded and is CMO at Ambys Medicines, andalso is a biotech consultant in the gene therapy and hematological areas.

Paula James

A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (MD, 1996), Dr. James is a full Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University. She holds cross-appointments to the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and Pediatrics. She is the Medical Director of the Inherited Bleeding Disorders Clinic of Southeastern Ontario and its aligned Women and Bleeding Disorders Clinic. Dr. James is a Clinician Scientist with an active research program focused on the molecular genetic basis of inherited bleeding disorders and the clinical impact of these conditions. She has published >130 papers in her field and has held/holds multiple national and international leadership roles including Clinical Co-chair of the ASH ISTH NHF WFH VWD Guideline Diagnosis panel.

Emna Gouider Belhadjali

Tunisia
Dr Emna Gouider is currently a professor of Hematology in the medical university of Tunis El Manar In Tunisia. She is the head of the hemophilia center in Aziza Othmana Hospital in Tunis, which has more than 600 people with bleeding disorders. She has an experience of more than 10 year with low dose prophylaxis for treatment of PWH.

She is a member of the WFH laboratory science committee and the WFH data and demographics committee. She also has been involved in the Tunisian Association of Hemophilia as a member responsible for medical and scientific affairs since 2001, and organized and conducted several nurse workshops, lab workshop, patients workshop and musculoskeletal workshop. Improvement of care and quality of life of PWH in her country is one of her main goals.

Cedric Hermans

Belgium

Cedric Hermans currently heads the Division of Haematology, the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Unit as well as the Hemophilia Center of the Saint-Luc University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. He was appointed Associate Professor at the Medical School of the Catholic University of Louvain in 2003, Full Professor in 2012 and Vice-Dean in 2015.

Professor Hermans has (co)-authored more than 275 original articles in international journals (H-Index:41) and is a member of several scientific societies and international advisory boards and collaborative research projects.

He was president of EAHAD and is currently member of the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Haemophilia and the Editor-in-Chief of the Haemophilia Journal.

His main research interests lie in the area of haemostasis and thrombosis, especially clinical studies on the treatment modalities and the wide spectrum of complications of haemophilia in both developed and developing countries, as well as new anticoagulants and the management of thrombosis.

Rebecca Kruse-Jarres

USA

Rebecca Kruse-Jarres, M.D., M.P.H., is director of the Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders at Bloodworks Northwest and has clinics at SCCA, Seattle Children’s Hospital and outreach clinics across Washington. She is a UW associate professor of Medicine and adjunct associate professor of Pediatrics. She is listed in the Best Doctors in America.

Dr. Kruse-Jarres believes it to be her duty to be an educator and advocate for patients and their families to ultimately arrive at the best treatment plan.

Dr. Kruse-Jarres earned her M.D. and M.P.H. at Tulane University. She is board certified in Hematology and Oncology. She is on the board of directors of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society and is an active member of the American Society of Hematology. She has multiple publications in her field and is a reviewer for several major medical journals.

Johnny Mahlangu

South Africa

Johnny Mahlangu is a Professor in Haematology and Head of School of Pathology in the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of the Witwatersrand and the National Health Laboratory Service. He is also a Consultant Clinical Haematologist in Charge of the Haematology at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Director of the International Haemophilia Training Centre in Johannesburg. Johnny received his undergraduate and post graduate training in science and medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand with haematology specialist and clinical haematology sub-specialist qualifications through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He has published review journal articles and presented abstracts, plenaries and key-note addresses at national and international meetings. His main area of research is novel therapies in bleeding disorders in which he has served as Principal Investigator for many international multicentre studies. Prof Mahlangu is current President of the College of Pathologists in South Africa, Chair of the South African Medical Research Council Board and Chair of the International Society on Haemostasis and thrombosis scientific and standardization Committee on Factor VIII, FIX and rare bleeding disorders.

Mike Makris

United Kingdom

Michael Makris is Professor of Haemostasis and Thrombosis at the University of Sheffield and since 1994 he has been an honorary consultant haematologist at The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Sheffield, UK. He is a past president of the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) and is a member of the council of the International Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).

Professor Makris is the project lead for the EUHASS bleeding disorder adverse event reporting scheme in Europe. He is on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Haematology, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Seminars in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and Blood Transfusion.

Margareth Ozelo

Brazil
Professor Margareth Ozelo is Director of the WFH International Haemophilia Training Centre (IHTC) at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. She received her medical degree (1994), specialist training in haematology and transfusion medicine (1994-1997), and PhD (2004) from Unicamp before undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship in David Lillicrap’s laboratory, at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada (2006–2009).

Professor Ozelo also works closely with the Brazilian federal government in developing and improving the haemophilia and inherited coagulopathies policy in Brazil. She is also very active in developing and promoting the haemophilia care in Latin America. Under her leadership of the Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Unit at Hemocentro UNICAMP in Campinas, Brazil, the centre became a WFH International Hemophilia Training Centre and has trained doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and laboratory technologists from Brazil, and many countries especially from Latin America.

Steven Pipe

USA

Dr. Steven Pipe is a Professor and the Laurence A. Boxer Research Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He is the medical director of the Pediatric Hemophilia and Coagulation Disorders Program and medical director of the Special Coagulation Laboratory. His clinical interests include bleeding and thrombotic disorders and congenital vascular anomalies. Dr Pipe also directs a basic research lab investigating coagulation factor VIII and the molecular mechanisms of hemophilia A. He has been actively involved in clinical trials with novel therapeutics for hemophilia including gene therapy. He was the 2015 recipient of the Leadership in Research Award from the National Hemophilia Foundation. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, as Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network and currently as Chair of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee to the National Hemophilia Foundation.

Veena Selvaratnam

Malaysia

Dr. Veena Selvaratnam is a Haematologist working in Ampang Hospital. She is the Head of Clinical Haematology Reference Laboratory, Hospital Ampang, a committee member of the National Haemophilia Registry and Research Technical Working Committee, Ministry of Health, Malaysia. She was also the medical co-chair for World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) 2020 World Congress.

Angela Weyand

USA

Dr. Weyand is a native of Kansas City, Kansas and a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She attended medical school at the University of Michigan, completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital and returned to the University of Michigan for her pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship. Clinically, she is particularly interested in young women and girls with bleeding or clotting disorders and is the co-director of a combined hematology/gynecology program serving this population. Her research interests are in genetic modifiers of hemostasis and thrombosis, women and girls with bleeding disorders, hormone provoked thrombosis, and von Willebrand disease.

Runhui Wu

China

Runhui WU, MD., PhD., a clinical Pediatrician Hematologist working in Hematology Center, Beijing Children’s Hospital (BCH), focus on Children’s bleeding disorders and the hemophilia pediatrician and director of Hemophilia Comprehensive Care center in BCH . Dr. Wu is a member of HTCCNC (Hemophilia Treatment Center collaboration network of China) and the chair of the Pediatric Workshop and the member of Chinese hematology association-thrombosis and haemostasis branch and hematology department of Capital Medical University, the member of IPSG (International Prophylaxis study group).

Greig Blamey

Adult Inherited Bleeding Disorders Program of Manitoba

Mr. Blamey is a Consultant Physiotherapist with the Adult Inherited Bleeding Disorders Program of Manitoba, located in Winnipeg, Canada. He began working with Bleeding Disorders in 1997, and is a past Chair of both the Canadian Physiotherapists in Hemophilia Care and the Musculoskeletal Committee of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). Mr Blamey has conducted Physiotherapy and Musculoskeletal Workshops on behalf of the WFH in Europe, Africa, South America, Central and East Asia, and the Middle East, and has been an invited speaker to national hemophilia events in Australia, Qatar, the United Kingdom, The United States, Canada, China, Brazil, Ireland, and Singapore. He is a co-developer of the WFH Standardized Global Musculoskeletal Training Curriculum, and Co-Chair of the Multidisciplinary Committee for the 2022 WFH World Congress. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Mr. Blamey is a Sessional Instructor at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Graduate Studies -College of Rehabilitation Sciences.

Carlos Safadi Marquez

Carlos Safadi Màrquez is currently WFH Vice President, NMO and is Acting Undersecretary of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Province of Buenos Aires, in charge of the electoral area of the Directorate of Technical Assistance to the Presidency in relation to the bodies of the Constitution.

Mr. Safadi Marquez had the joined the Argentinian WFH NMO—the Hemophilia Foundation of Argentina—as a volunteer on the Board of Administration at the age of 21. In 1996, he attended the WFH World Congress in Dublin, and joined the WFH Youth Committee that same year. He has been a volunteer with the WFH since then.

Hazri Aris

Malaysia
Hazri Aris was born with Severe Hemophilia A. He is a Manager of National Admissions of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Malaysia and has been an active volunteer for Hemophilia Society of Malaysia since 2006. We was elected as one of the Executive Committee Member in 2017, and his current portfolios are in the NGO include organizing events on educational and awareness on the bleeding disorder, and engaging youths in leadership building capacity events.

Hazri is also a certified Level 1 & 2 Swim coach with American Swim Coaches Association, certified Lifesaving Instructor with Lifesaving Society of Malaysia, and Certified International Lifesaver with International Lifesaving Society and participated in Half Ironman 70.3 Langkawi on a rely team in 2019.

Amanda Brito del Pino Mouro

Uruguay

Amanda lives in Uruguay, a small country in South America. She is Severe Hemophilia A symptomatic-carrier and the mother of two little boys (one with hemophilia). She has been working as a volunteer in Uruguay’s NMO since 2018. She is the recipient of a Susan Skinner fund Scholarship in 2017-18.

Frederica Cassis

Brazil
Ms. Cassis is a psychologist-psychotherapist in the hemophilia centre at the University of São Paulo and the Secretary of the WFH Psychosocial Committee. She began working with the bleeding disorders community in 1994, and has been part of the WFH World Congresses since 1998.

Ms. Cassis has created the renowned HemoAction Games for which she received the Inga Marie Nilsson Award. More recently, Ms. Cassis worked with the WFH Educational Materials team to produce Hemophilia, relationships and intimacy: answering your questions, a video that seeks to answer common questions patients have regarding this subject. Ms. Cassis looks forward to the day when all patients receive the kind of support and education that allows them to feel empowered and in control of their future.

Gavin Finklestein

PRESIDENT - Australia

Gavin Finkelstein is the President of the Haemophilia Foundation of Western Australia (HFWA). Gavin has severe haemophilia A and hepatitis C. He joined the HFWA Committee and has been involved as a volunteer with Haemophilia Foundation Western Australia since 1995 and was first appointed to the HFA Council in 1998. He has work experience in funds management and has owned and managed his own business. Gavin has previously held office as the HFA Treasurer. Gavin also hosted the WFH World Congress in 2014 as Congress President of the Congress Organizing Committee.

Kate Khair

United Kingdom

Dr. Kate Khair is Director of Research at Haemnet, a Clinical Academic Careers Fellow, Centre for Outcomes Research and Experience in Children’s Health Illness and Disability (ORCHID) at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust and Visiting Professor of Health and Social Care at London South Bank University. Since becoming a state registered nurse in 1981, Dr Khair has gained a number of other professional qualifications including state registration in paediatric nursing, a master’s degree in anthropology, a City and Guilds master’s degree in higher levels of practice, several modules in advanced nursing and a PhD in health. Kate is an advocate of the nurse’s role in the multi-disciplinary team, is the chair of the nurses committee of the WFH, a founding Trustee of Haemnet a haemophilia education and research charity where she is now Director of Research and is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Haemophilia Practice. Dr Khair worked in the haemophilia centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children from 1991 as a consultant nurse. In 2018 she moved to ORCHID to use her academic time to continue her work into outcomes research in haemophilia and bleeding disorders as well as to support PhD students in health outcomes research.

Rick Waines

Canada

Rick Waines is 51 years old with severe factor VIII, HIV, and has been treated (and cured!!!) for hepatitis C. He credits the Canadian Hemophilia Society as an important advocate and resource for his family since its inception in 1953. His uncle, Bill Rudd, was 12 in 1953, and the first in the family to have severe hemophilia A. Rick’s grandfather started the BC Chapter, and he and his parents served on the board. Uncle Bill was President of the CHS in the 80’s and helped start the Hemophilia Research Million Dollar Club, which to this day ensures that research leading to better treatments continues. Rick serves as Chair of the Education Committee and is a member of the Blood Safety and Supply Committee. He also sits on a Regional Liaison Committee for Canadian Blood Services.

Baiba Ziemele

Latvia

Baiba Ziemele (Riga, Latvia, European Union) became president of Latvia HemophiliaSociety in 2009 and ever since has devoted her life to advocacy of people with bleeding disorders in Latvia and actively participating in World Federation of Hemophilia VWD group and Women’s Committee. Baiba is also a member of European Haemophilia Consortium von Willebrand disease group and represents all people with bleeding disorders from Europe in EuroBloodNet –European Reference network for Rare haematological diseases. She was a professional market researcher and consultant, with BSc in Sociology and MBA, providing services and advice to best known global companies, such as Samsung and GE. Data collection and analysis skills became handy for patient advocacy. In 2016, Baiba became EUPATI (European Patients’ Academy) fellow and is recognized as one of rare disease experts in Europe. Now she plays key role in health care improvements for people with various rare diseases, also bleeding disorders, in her country, Latvia, where she also is president of Latvian Alliance of Rare Diseases and established awiderpatient organization network. Baiba strives to improve access to healthcare not only in Latvia, but also in Europe and globally by putting patient interests first to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development goals. Baiba is one of four people with von Willebrand disease Type 2 in her immediate family.

Marlène Beijlevelt

Netherlands

Marlène Beijlevelt has been a nurse for more than 30 years. She is working as a Hemophilia and Research nurse in the Amsterdam University Medical Center in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her main focus are young children and their families. Marlène completed her Master of Science in Utrecht and is certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Since October 2020, she is chair of the WFH Nurse committee.

Susan Cutter

United States

Susan Cutter is a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Working as a social worker with the hemophilia population since 1989, she provides a full complement of social work services to individuals and families with bleeding disorders. She participates in hemophilia outreach efforts, including providing social work services to adolescents in transition in an underserved area.

Ms. Cutter has been a professional trainer in the bleeding disorder community in areas such as strengthening patient/provider communications, team building, and conflict resolution. She has been involved in developing a wide range of educational programs, nationally and internationally, focusing on psychosocial issues for patients with hemophilia and their families. Ms. Cutter received the “Outstanding Social Work Award” in 1995 from the National Hemophilia Foundation.

Lochana Nanayakkara

United Kingdom

Lochana Nanayakkara qualified in Dentistry from The Royal London Hospital in 1992. She completed her initial training, to gain a Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 1995. She then undertook a 2 year Masters Degree in Conservative Dentistry followed by a 5 year Specialist Training Program in Restorative Dentistry.

Since 2003 Lochana has been a Part-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at The Royal London Dental Hospital and a Specialist Prosthodontist in Private Practice.

As part of her Consultant role, she is the Clinical Lead for the Dental management of patients with complicated Medical Histories including Haemophilia. She has been treating patients with inherited bleeding disorders since 2003. In 2014, she helped to launch a new dental service for the North London Adult Haemophilia Network. She was elected as the Western European Representative on the Dental Board of the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) and went on to be the Secretary of the Executive Dental Committee for the WFH before being elected into her present role as Vice-Chair in 2018.

Lochana has been developing an interest in the use of low level laser diode therapy to help promote healing and haemostasis in patients with rare inherited bleeding disorders. In 2018 she completed a Fellowship in Lasers in Dentistry from the University of Genoa and Eastman Dental Hospital.

Gianluigi Pasta

Italy

Gianluigi Pasta is an Orthopedic Surgeon of the Orthopedic and Traumatology Department at Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia. He studied medicine at Palermo University and he received his MD in 1999. At the same University, he received his specialization in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology in 2004. Orthopedic consultant at Hemophilia Centre of Palermo University from 2000 to 2006, and from 2006 to 2017 orthopedic consultant of Angelo Bianchi Bonomi Hemophilia Centre of Milan and from 2018 orthopedic consultant at Hemophilia Centre of Pavia. In this capacity, he provides clinical services in terms of musculoskeletal assessment, non-surgical and surgical treatment. He is the President of MSK Committee of the WFH and he is the coordinator of the MSK group of Italian Hemophilia Centres Association. Within this organization, he also serves as a Clinical Mentor for members from all regions of the country with less clinical experience in hemophilia care.

Dawn Rotellini

United States

Dawn has been a leader in the bleeding disorders community for many years.  As a parent of a son with hemophilia, she founded the Rocky Mountain Hemophilia & Bleeding Disorders Association in Bozeman, Montana, served as its Executive Director, and began their Family Camp. After moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she served as a board member for the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania for six years and then as Executive Director of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter. She has been with the National Hemophilia Foundation for 12 years and was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer. Dawn also serves on the Board of Directors for the World Federation of Hemophilia and World Federation of Hemophilia USA. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Montana State University in Bozeman.

Pierre Toulon

France

Pierre Toulon has more than 30 years’ experience in hemostasis laboratory development and management. He received his Pharmaceutical degree from the Paris XI University in 1987 and completed his PhD at Paris V University in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis in 1991. He was the director of the Laboratory of hemostasis and thrombosis at Cochin University Hospital in Paris, France and Associate Professor of Hematology at the Paris V University between 1987 and 2003, before taking his current position at Nice University Hospital since 2003.

Dr Pierre Toulon is a member of many international and national societies including the World Federation of Hemophilia (vice-chair, Laboratory Science Committee), the American Society of Hematology, the American Heart Association (FAHA, Council on Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology), the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the International Society for Laboratory Hematology, the French Society of Hematology and the GFHT (French Working Group on Thrombosis and Hemostasis)

Le Dr James est une scientifique clinique membre d’un programme actif de recherche sur le fondement moléculaire génétique des troubles héréditaires de la coagulation, et l’impact clinique de ces maladies. Elle a publié plus de 130 articles dans son domaine de recherche et exerce ou a exercé divers rôles nationaux et internationaux majeurs, notamment au poste de co-présidente clinicienne du panel des Recommandations conjointes ASH FMH ISTH NHF pour le diagnostic de la MW.

Le Dr Emna Gouider Belhadjali est professeure d’hématologie à l’université de médecine El Manar de Tunis (Tunisie). Le Dr Gouider est membre du Comité des sciences de laboratoire de la FMH ainsi que du Comité sur les données et la démographie.

Elle s’est engagée auprès de l’Association tunisienne de l’hémophilie, au sein de laquelle elle est responsable des affaires médicales et scientifiques depuis 2001. Dans ce cadre, elle a également organisé et animé plusieurs ateliers dédiés au personnel infirmier et de laboratoire, ainsi qu’aux patient·es et à la santé musculosquelettique. Améliorer les soins et la qualité de vie des personnes atteintes d’hémophilie dans son pays est l’un de ses objectifs principaux.

Il a été nommé professeur associé à l’école de médecine de l’Université catholique de Louvain en 2003, puis professeur titulaire en 2012 et enfin vice-doyen en 2015.

Le Pr Hermans a écrit ou co-écrit plus de 275 articles originaux dans des revues internationales (indice h : 41), est membre de plusieurs sociétés scientifiques et conseils consultatifs internationaux et participe à des projets de recherche collaboratifs.

Il a été président de la EAHAD et est actuellement membre du conseil d’administration de la Fédération mondiale de l’hémophilie, ainsi que rédacteur en chef de la revue Haemophilia.

Ses principaux thèmes de recherche concernent les domaines de l’hémostase et de la thrombose : il s’intéresse particulièrement aux études cliniques sur les modalités de traitement ainsi qu’au large spectre de complications de l’hémophilie dans les pays développés ou en développement, ainsi qu’aux nouveaux anticoagulants et à la prise en charge de la thrombose.

Rebecca Kruse-Jarres

Le Dr Rebecca Kruse-Jarres est directrice du Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders de Bloodworks Northwest et possède des cliniques au sein du SCCA et de l’hôpital pour enfants de Seattle ; elle travaille également dans des cliniques mobiles actives dans l’État de Washington. Elle est professeure associée en médecine à l’Université de Washington et professeure associée adjointe en pédiatrie. Elle figure sur la liste des meilleur·es médecins des États-Unis.

Le Dr Kruse-Jarres considère que son devoir est d’éduquer les patient·es et leurs familles, et de défendre leurs intérêts, pour parvenir au meilleur programme de traitement possible.

Le Dr Kruse-Jarres est diplômée de l’Université de Tulane. Elle est titulare d’une certification en hématologie et oncologie. Elle siège au conseil d’administration de la Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, et est membre active de l’American Society of Hematology. Elle est l’autrice de nombreuses publications dans son domaine et est relectrice pour plusieurs grandes revues médicales.

Johnny Mahlangu

Afrique du Sud

Le professeur Johnny Mahlangu est maître de conférences en hématologie, directeur du département de pathologie à la Faculté des sciences de la santé de l’Université du Witwatersrand, ainsi que du National Health Laboratory Service. Il est également hématologue clinique consultant, responsable de l’unité d’hématologie au Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital de Johannesbourg. Il est aussi directeur du centre de formation de Johannesbourg dédié à l’hémophilie. Il a effectué sa formation universitaire en sciences et en médecine à l’Université du Witwatersrand, et il est titulaire d’une spécialisation en hématologie et d’une sous-spécialisation en hématologie clinique, obtenues auprès des Collèges de médecine d’Afrique du Sud. Il a publié des articles dans des revues scientifiques, et présenté des abstracts, animé des séances plénières et donné des discours liminaires lors de rassemblements nationaux et internationaux. Son principal domaine de recherche concerne les nouvelles thérapies pour les troubles de la coagulation, et il a d’ailleurs été chercheur principal pour nombreuses études internationales multicentres. Le Pr Mahlangu est aujourd’hui président du Collège des pathologistes d’Afrique du Sud, président du South African Medical Research Council Board et président de l’International Society on Haemostasis and Thrombosis ainsi que du Scientific & Standardization Committee on Factor VIII, FIX and Rare Bleeding disorders.

Mike Makris

Royaume-Uni
Michael Makris est professeur en hémostase et thrombose à l’Université de Sheffield, et hématologue consultant honoraire depuis 1994 auprès du Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust de Sheffield (Royaume-Uni). Il a aussi été président de la European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD), et est actuellement membre du conseil de l’International Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).

Le Pr Makris est chef de projet pour le système de signalement des effets indésirables liés aux troubles de la coagulation de l’EUHASS en Europe. Il siège au comité éditorial du British Journal of Haematology, du Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, des Seminars in Thrombosis and Haemostasis ainsi que de Blood Transfusion.

Margareth Ozelo

Brésil

Le Pr Margareth Ozelo est directrice du Centre international de formation en hémophilie (CIFH) de la FMH à l’Université de Campinas (UNICAMP), à São Paulo (Brésil). Elle a obtenu son diplôme de médecine (1994), sa spécialisation en hématologie et médecine de la transfusion (1994-1997) ainsi que son doctorat (2004) à l’UNICAMP, avant de mener un post-doctorat au laboratoire de David Lillicrap au sein de la Queen’s University de Kingston (Ontario, Canada) entre 2006 et 2009.

Le Pr Ozelo travaille également en étroite collaboration avec le gouvernement fédéral du Brésil pour le développement et l’amélioration des politiques relatives à l’hémophilie et aux coagulopathies héréditaires. Elle est très active dans le développement et la promotion des soins de l’hémophilie en Amérique latine. Sous sa direction, l’Unité de soins complets de l’hémophilie de l’Hemocentro UNICAMP de Campinas est devenue un Centre international de formation en hémophilie, et a formé des médecins, des infirmiers et infirmières, des kinésithérapeutes et des technicien·nes de laboratoire du Brésil et de nombreux autres pays, particulièrement d’Amérique latine.

Steven Pipe

États-Unis

Le Dr Steven Pipe est enseignant-chercheur en pédiatrie, titulaire du poste de Laurence A. Boxer et professeur de pathologie à l’Université du Michigan d’Ann Arbor (États-Unis). Il est directeur médical du Pediatric Hemophilia and Coagulation Disorders Program et directeur médical du Special Coagulation Laboratory. Ses intérêts cliniques sont notamment les troubles de la coagulation et les maladies thrombotiques, ainsi que les anomalies vasculaires congénitales. Le Dr Pipe dirige également un laboratoire de recherche qui s’intéresse au facteur VIII de coagulation ainsi qu’aux mécanismes moléculaires de l’hémophilie A. Il est très impliqué dans les essais cliniques des thérapies nouvelles de l’hémophilie, dont la thérapie génique. Il a reçu en 2015 le Leadership in Research Award de la National Hemophilia Foundation. Il a siégé au conseil d’administration de la Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, a été président du conseil d’administration de l’American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network et est actuellement président du Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee auprès de la National Hemophilia Foundation.

Veena Selvaratnam

Malaisie

Le Dr Veena Selvaratnam est hématologue à l’hôpital d’Ampang Hospital. Elle est directrice du Clinical Haematology Reference Laboratory de l’hôpital, membre du National Haemophilia Registry and Research Technical Working Committee au sein du ministère de la Santé en Malaisie. Elle a également été co-présidente médicale du Congrès mondial 2020 de la Fédération mondiale de l’hémophilie.

Angela Weyand

États-Unis

Le Dr Weyand est originaire de Kansas City (Kansas, États-Unis), et diplômée de la Northwestern University d’Evanston (Illinois). Elle a fréquenté l’école de médecine de l’université du Michigan, puis effectué sa résidence en pédiatrie à l’université de Washington et l’hôpital pour enfants de Seattle, avant de retourner à l’université du Michigan pour y travailler dans le cadre d’une bourse d’études en hématologie et oncologie. Elle s’intéresse particulièrement à l’étude clinique des jeunes femmes et filles atteintes d’un trouble de la coagulation, et co-dirige un programme conjoint d’hématologie-gynécologie destinée à cette partie de la population. Ses thèmes de recherche de prédilection sont les modificateurs génétiques de l’hémostase et de la thrombose, les femmes et les filles atteintes d’un trouble de la coagulation, la thrombose hormonale et la maladie de Willebrand.

Runhui Wu

Chine

Le Dr Runhui Wu (PhD) est hématologue clinicienne et pédiatre au Centre d’hématologie de l’hôpital pour enfants de Beijing. Son travail se concentre sur les troubles de la coagulation chez l’enfant, et elle est directrice du Centre de soins complets de l’hémophilie de l’hôpital, au sein duquel elle est également pédiatre. Le Dr Wu est membre du HTCCNC (Hemophilia Treatment Center Collaboration Network of China), membre et présidente de l’Atelier d’hématologie de la branche Thrombose et hémostase de l’Association chinoise de pédiatrie et d’hématologie, professeure au département d’Hématologie de la Capital Medical University, et membre de l’IPSG (International Prophylaxis Study Group).

Greig Blamey

Programme des troubles de la coagulation chez les adultes de Manitoba

M. Blamey est kinésithérapeute consultant au sein du Programme des troubles de la coagulation chez les adultes de Manitoba, à Winnipeg (Canada). Il a commencé à travailler dans le domaine des troubles de la coagulation en 1997, et a été président des Physiothérapeutes canadiens en hémophilie ainsi que du Comité de la Fédération mondiale de l’hémophilie (FMH) sur la santé musculosquelettique. M. Blamey a animé des ateliers de kinésithérapie sur la santé musculosquelettique pour la FMH en Europe, Afrique, Amérique du Sud, Asie centrale et orientale et Moyen-Orient. Il a été invité comme intervenant dans des événements nationaux consacrés à l’hémophilie en Australie, au Qatar, au Royaume-Uni, aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Chine, au Brésil, en Irlande et à Singapour. Il a codéveloppé pour la FMH le Programme mondial de formation standardisée en santé musculosquelettique et a été co-président du Comité multidisciplinaire pour le Congrès mondial 2022 de la FMH. En plus de ses responsabilités de praticien, M. Blamey est aussi chargé de cours à l’université de Manitoba au sein de la Faculté des études supérieures, dans le département des Sciences de la rééducation

Carlos Safadi Marquez

Carlos Safadi Márquez est actuellement vice-président de la FMH en charge des ONM, sous-secrétaire à la Cour suprême de justice dans la province de Buenos Aires, et responsable du domaine électoral auprès du Directorat d’assistance technique à la présidence en lien avec les organes constitutionnels.

Mr Safadi Márquez a rejoint l’ONM argentine de la FMH, la Fondation de l’hémophilie d’Argentine, en tant que membre bénévole du conseil d’administration, alors qu’il n’avait que 21 ans. En 1996, il a assisté au Congrès mondial de la FMH à Dublin et a rejoint le Comité des jeunes de la FMH. Il est resté bénévole auprès de la FMH depuis.

Hazri Aris

Malaisie

Hazri Aris est atteint d’hémophilie A sévère. Il est responsable des candidatures au sein du département de Sciences informatiques et de l’ingénieur à l’Université de Malaisie. C’est un bénévole engagé de la Société d’hémophilie de Malaisie depuis 2006. Il a été élu membre du Comité exécutif en 2017, et ses fonctions actuelles comprennent l’organisation d’événements pour la sensibilisation et l’éducation aux troubles de la coagulation, ainsi que sur l’engagement des jeunes dans des programmes pour renforcer leurs capacités de direction.

Aris est aussi maître-nageur certifié (niveaux 1 et 2) par l’American Swim Coaches Association, moniteur certifié en sauvetage par la Société de sauvetage de Malaisie, et moniteur international certifié en sauvetage par l’International Lifesaving Society. Il a participé au demi-Ironman 70.3 de Langkawi en 2019, en relais.

Amanda Brito del Pino Mouro

Uruguay

Mme Brito del Pino vit en Uruguay, en Amérique du Sud. Elle est porteuse symptomatique de l’hémophilie A et mère de deux petits garçons, dont l’un est aussi atteint d’hémophilie. Elle travaille comme bénévole au sein de l’ONM uruguayenne depuis 2018. Elle a reçu la bourse Susan Skinner en 2017-2018.

Frederica Cassis

Brésil

Mme Cassis est psychologue et psychothérapeute au centre pour l’hémophilie de l’Université de São Paulo, et secrétaire du Comité psychosocial de la FMH. Elle a commencé à travailler avec la communauté des troubles de la coagulation en 1994, et a participé aux Congrès mondiaux de la FMH depuis 1998. Mme Cassis a créé les célèbres Jeux HemoAction, qui lui ont valu le prix Inga Marie Nilsson. Plus récemment, elle a travaillé avec l’équipe de la FMH qui crée les contenus pédagogiques, pour produire une vidéo intitulée « Hémophilie, relations et intimité : réponses à vos questions », pour aborder les questions les plus fréquentes des patient·es sur ce thème.

Mme Cassis espère bientôt voir le jour où les patient·es recevront toutes et tous le soutien et l’éducation qu’ils méritent pour se sentir autonomes et aux commandes de leur avenir.

Gavin Finklestein

Président - Australie

Gavin Finkelstein est président de la Haemophilia Foundation of Western Australia (HFWA).  Il est atteint d’hémophilie A sévère et d’hépatite C. Il a rejoint le comité de la HFWA en 1995 et est bénévole au sein de l’association depuis ; il a été nommé au conseil de la HFA en 1998. M. Finkelstein a travaillé dans la gestion financière et a été à la tête de sa propre entreprise. Il a aussi été trésorier de la HFA. Enfin, il a animé le Congrès mondial 2014 de la FMH en tant que président du Comité d’organisation.

Kate Khair

Royaume-Uni

Le Dr Kate Khair est directrice de recherche à Haemnet et Clinical Academic Careers Fellow au Centre for Outcomes Research and Experience in Children’s Health Illness and Disability (ORCHID), au sein de l’hôpital pour enfants NHS Trust de Great Ormond Street. Elle est aussi professeure invitée en Services sociaux et de santé à la South Bank University de Londres. Depuis sa certification nationale d’infirmière en 1981, le Dr Khair a acquis de nombreuses autres qualifications professionnelles, notamment une certification en soins infirmiers pédiatriques, un master en anthropologie, un master de la City & Guilds en pratique médicale avancée, plusieurs modules de soins infirmiers avancés et un doctorat en santé. Le Dr Khair défend le rôle des infirmières et infirmiers au sein de l’équipe multidisciplinaire de soins, est présidente du Comité infirmier de la FMH, et membre fondatrice de Haemnet (un organisme de charité pour l’éducation et la recherche en hémophilie), où elle est désormais directrice de recherche. Elle est aussi rédactrice en chef de la revue Journal of Haemophilia Practice. Le Dr Khair travaille au centre d’hémophilie de l’hôpital pour enfants de Great Ormond Street depuis 1991 en tant qu’infirmière consultante. En 2018, elle est entrée à l’ORCHID pour investir son temps universitaire dans la recherche relative aux résultats dans le domaine de l’hémophilie et des troubles de la coagulation, ainsi que dans l’aide aux doctorant·es dans le domaine de la santé.

Rick Waines

Canada

Rick Waines a 51 ans et est atteint du VIH et d’une déficience sévère en facteur VIII. Il a aussi été traité pour l’hépatite C, dont il est aujourd’hui guéri. Il est très reconnaissant à la Société canadienne de l’hémophilie, qui a beaucoup aidé sa famille depuis sa création en 1953, tant en matière de plaidoyer que de ressources. Son oncle, Bill Rudd, qui avait 12 ans à l’époque, a été le premier membre de la famille à être atteint d’hémophilie A sévère. C’est le grand-père de Rick qui a fondé la section de Colombie-Britannique, et a siégé au conseil, tout comme ses parents. L’oncle Bill a été président de la SCH dans les années 1980 et a aidé à créer le Club du million de dollars pour la recherche sur l’hémophilie, qui assure encore aujourd’hui que la recherche de meilleurs traitements se poursuive. Rick, quant à lui, est président du Comité éducatif et membre du Comité sur la sécurité et l’approvisionnement des produits sanguins. Il siège aussi dans un comité régional de liaison pour la Société canadienne du sang.

Baiba Ziemele

Lettonie

Baiba Ziemele (Riga, Lettonie) est devenue présidente de la Société lettone de l’hémophilie en 2009, et se consacre depuis à militer en faveur des personnes atteintes d’un trouble de la coagulation en Lettonie. Elle participe activement au groupe de la Fédération mondiale de l’hémophilie sur la MW ainsi qu’à son Comité des femmes. Mme Ziemele est aussi membre du groupe sur la maladie de Willebrand du European Haemophilia Consortium et représente toutes les personnes atteintes d’un trouble de la coagulation en Europe au sein d’EuroBloodNet (European Reference Network for Rare Haematological Diseases). Elle a été analyste de marché, titulaire d’une licence en sociologie et d’un master – elle a ainsi conseillé des grandes entreprises mondiales telles que Samsung et GE. Ses compétences en collecte et analyse de donnés se sont révélées très utiles dans ses actions de plaidoyer. En 2016, Mme Ziemele est devenue membre de l’EUPATI (European Patients’ Academy), et elle est reconnue comme une experte des maladies rares en Europe. Elle joue aujourd’hui un rôle de premier plan dans l’amélioration des soins de santé pour les personnes atteintes d’une maladie rare ou d’un trouble de la coagulation en Lettonie. Elle est aussi présidente de l’Alliance lettone pour les maladies rares et a mis en place un réseau élargi d’organisations de patients. Mme Ziemele s’engage pour l’amélioration de l’accès aux soins, non seulement en Lettonie mais aussi en Europe et dans le monde, en faisant de l’intérêt des patient·es sa priorité, avec l’objectif d’atteindre les Objectifs de développement durable des Nations Unies. Elle est l’une des 4 personnes de sa famille à être atteinte de la maladie de Willebrand de type 2.
